Jesus Martinez clarifies recent Orlando Tuzos reports and names President

According to mediotiempo.com, Pachuca’s President Jesús Martínez has clarified the situation regarding the Orlando Tuzos and what league the team will play in.  As I suspected,  previous media reports linking the team with MLS were in error and the Orlando Tuzos will play in USL1.   Martínez declared that USL1 will allow greater freedom of operation particularly in regards to ownership of the players.

Martínez has also named Luis Baraldi, current Vice-president of Pachuca CF as the first President of Orlando Tuzos.

Orlando Tuzos USA to play in MLS?

There’s a conflicting report from a Spanish language online financial publication El Financiero that the new franchise that Pachuca is set to launch in Orlando will actually play in MLS.  The quote atributed to Pachuca President Jesus Martinez names MLS as the league the new club intends to play in.   I’m a bit skeptical as the earlier report mentions USL Div 1, but perhaps the ultimate target is to play in MLS.

Orlando Tuzos USA (CF Pachuca) coming in April 2010?

CF Pachuca of the Mexican league has leaked that they will be launching a USL Division 1 team to play in Orlando.  The name of the team is reported to be Orlando Tuzos USA.  Tuzos (gophers) is the nickname of the Pachuca team.  The team is expected to start playing in April 2010.

Wow, someone is interested in investing in soccer in the USA.  I wonder what venue they are considering?  Citrus Bowl perhaps?

The Central Florida Kraze lost to the Laredo Heat in a hard fought semifinal battle 2-1.  The Laredo Heat scored the decisive goal on a Greg Malamba header at the 64th minute mark.  The match was a physical battle that saw more than its share of yellow cards with frequent stoppages in play, especially late in the second half.

The Heat opened the score early in the second half on a Leone Cruz strike.  The Kraze responded on a deflection from a strike by Tanner Wolfe.

In the earlier semifinal, Austin Aztex beat the Bradenton Academics by an identical scoreline to advance to the finals.  That game will be played at 7:00pm tonight.

RIP MISL…

The Major Indoor Soccer League has ceased operations. However, they do hope to restructure and come back in more solid financial ground.

“We are considering structural changes that will bring us greater efficiencies, while also allowing long term growth and expansion of the League,” said John Hantz, former Chairman of the MISL, and Owner/Operator of the Detroit Ignition.

So what’s going to happen to the local franchise Orlando Sharks? No word on their website yet.

Update: The Orlando Sentinel has an article on the Sharks and the MISL collapse.
